Chambersburg Area School District
Nestled in the heart of Cumberland Valley, the Chambersburg Area School District ranks as one of the top 25 largest districts in Pennsylvania. With approximately 9,000 students, and more than 20 district facilities, including 17 schools, Chambersburg wanted to make schools safer, more engaging and relevant for students. Thinking big about using energy as a foundation, the district sought to use energy savings to help fund their campus modernizations.
Starting in 2000, Chambersburg entered into a seven phase program partnership with OpTerra Energy Services to address energy performance needs that would in turn redirect savings to improve the learning environment. The program included water saving technologies and updated video monitoring systems.
The energy program saved $380,000 a year for the district over the life of the seven phases of work. The energy savings made it possible to improve key facilities across the district, such as computer labs and athletic event centers, providing more modernized and engaging spaces for the students of the district.
